It had been a long, hard day of sellin' papes. Mush was tired but knew he wouldn't be able to sleep. He leaned against the statue and faced the sky. Sunning his face. He wondered where everyone was. He hadn't seen anyone since they went their seperate ways to sell papes.
He looked around. Had he just heard his name? He wasn't sure. Maybe he'd go for a walk. Or to Tibby's. He was gettin kinda hungry...

Levi sat on the other side of the statue in the square with his moccasin in his hand. He was trying-unsuccessfully-to fix the leather laces. He looked up and saw people passing by. Huh... this place was pretty busy. He turned his head to the side and looked around the corner. "Mush!" He said in surprise. He hadn't seen the boy in weeks.
Levi quickly shoved his foot inside his leather boot and pulled the laces tight, trying not to snap them. He stood and brushed himself off, his buckskin coat over his shoulder. It was hot out. "I haven't seen you in a bit, where have you been, le mita cola?" He asked, slapping the older boy on the back. He smiled, his bright teeth contrasting sharply with his skin.

It was hotter than normal outside lately and Ace was rather simple today, she wore her black pants and had them rolled up to just below her knees and she wore a white plain shirt under her black button up one and her sleeves were rolled up and her shirt unbuttoned and tied at her stomach to reveal the white shirt. She groaned as she slid to a seated position with her back against the statue, she heard voices but wasn't really paying attention to who they belonged to. She ran a hand through her hair and then patted her pockets in search of a cigarette. "Damnit all ta hell...."she cursed under her breath when she couldn't find one. She clicked her pink sugar stick in her mouth against her teeth in slight agrivation that she hadn't snagged a pack yet today. She looked up at the sky and squinted slightly before looking down and thinking to herself, wondering if Asher was doing ok, poor kid. She just sat there now drowning out most of the people around her.

Levi noticed a girl leaning up against the statue. He nudged Mush and pointed to her. He grinned and climbed on top of the statue, he stood, holding on to one of Horace Greeley's chair's arms. His moccasins made no sound as he leapt off the statue, spinning in the air so as to land in front of the girl-facing her. "Boo!" He said, his grin even wider as he laughed.
He was using all the training Grandfather and Chayton had pounded into his head. He didn't know this girl, and he was acting as he always did when meeting new people, like an Indian. "Nituwe he, Iyotake Ishta?Who are you, Sitting Girl?" He asked in his language-Lakota-and then in English. Another habit he had, weaving Sioux into his English conversations. But he had promised his grandfather that he would not let the language die inside of him. "I am going to call you Wacanga." He said, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "Yes, that is the perfect name for you."

Ace had only looked up in slight surprise but it faded into a smile as she tilted her head,"And may I ask what that means....?"she asked him as she laughed softly. She bit her lip slightly still sucking on her candy,"the name's Ace, and who might you be?"she asked she smirked slightly considering speaking French to the kid but decided against it for now. She tilted her head more as her hair toppled to one side and brightened up her face and her eyes. She had seen Mush from the corner of her eye,"you know dis kid Mush?"she asked him, not really caring if he answered her or not.

Levi sat back on his heels and seemed to consider the matter. "I don't know if I should tell you. You see, it's not as... wonderful as you may think." He grinned, enjoying teasing her and then sighed and replied, "It means Sweet Grass. Like um... Softness and a sweet smell. I don't know if they have it in New York." He laughed.
"Why should I say my name? It's important information someone could use against me. But... I think I could keep you silent..." He shrugged and said. "I have several names. Levi Walker, Levi Akecheta, or Wangeeska Akecheta. It's kinda confusing. I different nicknames too, Indian, Boo, He Who Flies. I just can't be described in one world." He winked and tapped his chin again while his other hand played with a button on his open shirt. His arrowhead bounced off his bare chest as he moved slightly.
"But, if you have to call me anything, call me Levi. You might screw up the pronuciation of the rest of my name. Names are important to get right, you know. So, micaje Levi." He held out his hand, waiting for her to shake it.

Ace took his hand and shook it gently before pulling her hand away,"well sounds interesting Levi, whatcha doin' round here I've neva seen you before....?"she questioned as she let her eyes meet his. She smiled and took a bite of her candystick chewing and swallowing before continue to simply suck on it again. She wondered if the boy was even a newsie, and if he was which burough he belonged to. She pulled out a deck of cards and shuffled them in her hands as she looked at him still.

He grinned. "Good. You see, I have to be quick on my feet. I'm like the wind." He waved his hands gently and laughed. "I'm a thief see, the best thief and pickpocket in New York. I was trained from birth to be quieter and quicker then anything on earth. I can smell and hear and see things others cannot. And they don't hear me coming and they can't catch me. I always run a few blocks and then climb onto a roof, and jump from roof to roof." Levi told her cheerfully. "I'm an Indian, you know." he grinned. "I was going to become Chief... but..." He trailed off, leaving it at that.

Mush looked around again. He had heard his name. It was Levi. " Oh hey Boo." He continued looking at the people surrounding them. Levi nudged him and pointed his chin at Ace. She was sittin' on the statue Mush was sittin' on. He watched as Levi got on the statue and said "Boo!" Ace just looked at him.
"You know this kid Mush?"
"Aw yeah. That's just Levi." He turned away listening to their conversation.

He asked him, raising his eyebrows at him. "You know, you're no fun anymore, le mita cola. Ever since you started going with that Brooke girl. Me? No one's ever gonna tie me down. Except for her, she can tie me down anytime she wants..." Levi said, following a passing girl with his eyes. He didn't try to hide it. He fanned himself and leaned towards Mush. "Now that, is a woman." He winked and laughed.

Mush looked Levi in the eye. "Do not talk about Brooke like that." He gave Levi a steely gaze. "And I am fun still it's just so hot out here. It's gotta be the hottest day this summa." He looked at the girl passing by. "Jeesh Levi. Must you hit on every girl ya see?" He looked at Levi and shook his head. Then, a smile broke out on his face. He punched Levi easily in the arm. "Hey man ya know i'm joking round with ya." He laughed.

Levi shook his head. "I do not hit on every girl I see. Just most." He grinned. "It all depends. Their hair, their clothes, their age. You will not find me chatting up some sixty-year old." Levi shivered as an elderly lady passed. "Besides, how could I not? Someone as good-looking as me has to put themselves out there. It wouldn't be fair otherwise." He winked. "You know, Mush, I was the top bachelor in my village. All the girls wanted to marry me. It's just a good thing I got out of there when I did, I'm fifteen now, I could be married already..." He grimaced. "Could you imagine me, married?!" He asked in shock. "Nah, it would be selfish of me to commit to one girl. You on the other hand..." He turned and muttered something that sounded oddly like 'can only get one girl..'

"Ya I know you wouldn't hit up someone that could be your grandma. Isn't that illegal or somethin'?" Mush laughed as he saw the way Levi shivered as the elderly lady passed. Still laughing he really didn't catch the rest of Levi's words, except the last part. "What was that, Boo? I don't think I heard you right. Was you sayin' I could only get one goil?" His laughter stopped immediately. He shook his head with disbelief. "Ya know someday yous gonna fall for ONE goil and get yaself hooked. Then ya let me know how life's goin' for ya alright?" Still shocked that one of his close friends had said that, Mush pushed away from the statue and began to walk away. "I'll see ya round Ace." Mush looked up and smiled at Ace. Saying nothing else to Levi, Mush walked away and didn't look back. He was headed to Tibby's for a bite to eat before heading to... well he wasn't quite sure yet. But he had to do some thinkin' and he prefered that place to be quiet and semi-alone.

Levi groaned. "Now, now, Mush. Only having one girl is good for some people. You're one of those people that um... have consiouses. You feel bad if you have more then one good. Man, you're in love. I didn't mean anything by it! It's just well... Maybe I am a little jealous." Levi shrugged. "It hasn't happened to me yet. Maybe it never will..." Levi shrugged again. "I'm sorry, really I'm sorry, Mush. Please, le mita cola?" He asked, begging him with puppy-dog eyes.

Ace eyed the two in conversation and smiled abit,"Mush don't let him get to ya, you know what you want and dats a good thing, following yer heart is the best way ta go...."she muttered softly. She stood and leaned against the statue as she eyed Levi. "And you well, I'm sure you'll find somebody some day, if you just believe in yerself ya know?"she said with a smile on her face, she was glad that she wasn't caught up in a relationship, she had seen what it does to some people, turning even the strongest people weak, making even the toughest people cry, giving up everything for that one person. She shrugged,"it all depends on who you are and what you want, Mush is lucky he found his early,"she teased.
