Brooke stopped in front of Ace. "Ace- i'm glad i caught ya." She said panting. She stopped to catch her breath. "It's Chase. We need ya. He's in trouble. I just saw him at the docks and it looked like he was gonna jump in. I tried ta call him away from it, but he didn't- it was like he didn't hear meh. Please, Ace, it looked like he was gonna do somethin' stupid." She looked at Ace with a slight panic in her eyes.

Ace looked at Brooke and let it proccess for a moment before she turned and took off for the docks. She slid to a hault behind where Chase stood and she looked at his back as she caught her breath,"Chase don't do it...."she said, she could hear the hurt in her own voice, and she knew if she could hear it that it was apparrent to everyone else. "Please....don't do it,"she pleaded.

Chase began swaying, getting ready to jump into the river. He heard Ace's voice behind him. He turned around so quickly, he wasn't expecting her to be there, he lost his balance and into the river he went. He came up spluttering. "What are you doing here?" He asked, spitting water out of his mouth.

She rushed over to the edge of the dock and looked down at him,"I came cause Brooke thought ya were gonna do somethin' stupid....Chase don't do anythin' stupid...I'm not worth it,"she told him. She hesitated but she jumped in and came up spitting out water next to him and she pulled him into her arms,"I need you...whether its just as yer friend or more I need ya...if ya wanna be with someone else that's fine but don't do anythin' stupid cause I at least need ya hereh as my bes' friend Chase,"she said as she burried her face into his chest holding him close, ignoring the fact they were soaking wet now and floating in a river.

Chase was suprised when she jumped into the river and even more when she grabbed ahold of him. He held onto her, hugging her. He swam towards the dock with one arm propelling them and the other holding Ace. He lifted her up out of the water and with Brooke's help, they both got out of the river. Chase stood there, water dripping from his clothes. Looked down at his sopping clothes and at Ace's and chuckled. He grabbed Ace again and hugged her again. "I think the water would have cleared my head, but i'm glad you came anyway." He whispered in her ear. He mouthed a thank you to Brooke. He wanted to kiss Ace one last time, but he didn't, afraid it might set her off again.

Ace held him in her arms when he hugged her again once they reached the dock and got out. She didn't want to let go, she didn't want to be alone again. She looked into his eyes, fighting back tears but she couldn't do it anymore. She brought her lips to his and the tears fell reluctantly down her cheeks as she brought her hands to his cheeks, and she pulled back just slightly her lips still brushing against his as she spoke through her light tears. "I love you....but because I love you I have to let you go....I have to let you be happy no matter how much it hurts me..."she whispered against his lips.

Chase kissed Ace back listening to her words. He pulled back and wiped the tears away. "I truly do love you. I've never felt that way about anyone before.." His voice trailed thinking of Mischief. Did he love her? He stood there beside Ace, but his mind was a million miles away. Chase thought he loved Mischief but it wasn't real like it was with Ace. He felt the need to be with both of them. To protect them. But there was a connection with Ace he couldn't describe but also a pull towards Mischief he didn't understand. He looked back at Ace with confusion in his eyes. "I don't know what to do anymore." He muttered. *Gott, hilf mir. he thought.

She rested her forehead against his when she noticed Brooke had taken her leave. She lie her hands on the sides of his neck and looked into Chase's eyes,"I will do whatever you wish Chase, if it means so much for you to be with her....be with her, But I love you Chase and I would do anything for you, even if tat means allowing you to see another girl, as long as that means I get to be with you still...."this was not normal for Ace to go about things in such a shady manner, but she loved him, more than anything she loved him and she was afraid of being alone. "Chase...please stay with me,"she whispered once again brushing her lips against his as she whispered to him.

Chase nodded and smiled. He laughed as he kissed her again. He was glad he could be with Ace again. He didn't like cheating on anyone no matter who it was. He wanted to only be with one girl. But he couldn't hurt Ace, he loved her too much and he couldn't hurt Mischief. When she looked at him, his heart melted. The way she looked at him, it did something to him but he couldn't figure out what it was. In a way he did love her but it was no where near Ace.

She took his hands in hers and smiled against his lips weakly,"Let's get back to the lodgin' house....I'm still sore from the surgery.."she muttered. She pulled away from him still holding his hand as she walked with him back to the lodging house,"Come up and lay with me?"she asked him when they reached the lodging house door and she lingered, hesitating on entering quite yet.

Chase paused a few seconds outside the Lodging House. He wanted to automatically say yes to Ace. But, then again, there was Mischief. He hadn't seen her in a while. He mentally shrugged. He hadn't been around but he'd see her tomorrow when he went to the bar to work. He'd only been helping her a day or two but he could see what Mischief had meant when she said it was usually busy. He nodded at Ace. "Of course." He smiled. His smile reached his eyes and he knew it. He followed Ace into the House and upstairs.

She led him up to the bunkroom and over to her bed on the bottom bunk. She lie down on her side and gently pulled him down to lie behind her so he could hold her. She closed her eyes and settled down into the sheets resting her head on the pillow. "Ya mean the world ta meh Chase....even if ya don't see it, ya do,"she whispered. She ran her hand along his arm and took in a few deep breaths. "But please be careful too.... ya jus' met her....fer all you know somethin' could be wrong wit her, it's not like the girls here that ya've known fer god knows how long and ya know we'd neveh hurt ya,"she whispered.

Chase laid down beside ACe and held her gently. He kissed the top of her head. "Of course, doll. Ya know me. And i promise if i get into a rough spot i'll find my way out." He winked as she looked up at him. Chase always found his way out of situations. It was his job.

She nodded as she held him close and closed her eyes resting her head against his chest,"I trust you,"she whispered before opening her eyes too look back up into his as she brought her lips to his. "I love you,"she whispered against his lips, simply glad to be in his arms.

Chase kissed her back. "Love you too." He smiled and kissed her again. He knew one thing, he wouldn't let Ace down. She was right he'd just met Mischief not long ago. But he would be careful. He did not think Mischief would hurt him in any way, but his time on the streets and in the refuge, he'd learned that everyone had a different side of them. Everyone hid something from everyone else. He wondered what Ace hid. He shrugged and kissed her again.
