Full Name: Lea Marie Dawson
Newsie name: Hope
Name origin: Given to her because she's very optimistic and hopeful.
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Birthplace: Budapest, Hungary
Currently Living: Harlem, New York
History: Lea Marie Dawson was born to parents Issac and Anna Dawson on April 20th, 1883 in Budapest, Hungary. The Dawsons were simple folk, Issac owned a farm out in the country, Anna's full attention was committed toward Lea. Once Lea was old enough, she would help her father with the farm work, along with learning how to read and write with her mother. In 1885 Issac and Anna had another baby, Sophia Margaret Dawson. In 1891 the Dawsons had to leave Hungary, to this day Lea doesn't know why they left.
It was difficult adjusting from Hungary to America. New York was the biggest city any of them have ever seen, but Issac got a job working at a factory, Anna became a seamstress, and Lea and Sophia went to school and began learning English.
However, one day when Lea and Sophia came home from school they found their mother in the middle of the floor, crying. She told them that they would never see their father again. That memory is Lea's worst memory.
Three months later Anna remarried, Sophia and Lea hated their new stepfather, Mike O'Connor. He was abusive to them, and their mother. Anna told them it was only temporary, that he was just angry, and that it would all be over soon. Nine months after that, and nothing changed. Then, Anna fell ill, and died shortly after. Mike didn't want anything to do with Sophia and Lea, so he tried to send them out west on the orphan train. Lea had a plan for her and Sophia to escape, but the plan fell through, and she was the only one to escape. That was the last time she saw her sister.
Lea was now all alone in New York, she lived on the streets for about seven or eight months before a newsie found her and invited her to become a newsie. She joined the Harlem newsies, changed her name to Hope, the nickname her parents gave her when she was little, and has been there ever since.
Hope's optimistic personality is the only reason she still gets up every morning and smiles. She dreams that she will be reunited with her sister, but doesn't share that dream with anyone, unless she really trusts them.
Hair Color: Brown
Hair Style: Down and messy with a few curls.
Eye Color: Blue
Skin Color: Pale
Height: 5'2
Weight: 98 lbs
Clothing Style: Owns one dress, a skirt, and a blouse. All are ragged, and have many holes in them.
Items owned: Not much. She owns a silver chain that her mother gave to her on her tenth birthday right before she died.
Personality: Hope is very optimistic, very hopeful, always looks on the bright side of things. She tries to get along with everyone, but if someone makes a move against her, all hell will break loose. She's very free spirited. Hope's not much of a planner, she just lets life run its course. She's fiercely loyal to her friends, and to her fellow newsies.
Troubles: She doesn't forgive very easily, and she's really free spirited, which causes trouble a lot. Also, her optimistic personality can get on some people's nerves, too.
Fears: Dying alone and not being able to find Sophia.
Siblings: Sophia Dawson, 14, (unknown)
Parents: Issac Dawson (unknown), Anna Dawson-O'Connor (dead), Mike O'Connor (stepfather, unknown, and Hope doesn't want him to find her.)
