Henri nodded. This was a good place. Better then the Italian resturant in Queens and the pub in Harlem. Much better. But also not better. There were no women. Not even a young women. Only young boys, ranging not in size but in scruffiness. Was that a flash of long hair? No, only a stray coat. Henri sighed. He'd come to America for its easy ways, easy girls, easy jobs, everything was supposed to be easy. So far, he hadn't met any girls, hadn't been served at a bar, and the work? Forget it! He slaved away underground, surrounded by Irish (whom he quite detested for their habits of drinking and having more children then they could care for).
Henri slunk to the windows, shooed two boys no less the twelve, and took their seats. When he'd come here, they'd asked if he wanted a job. He had training, he could be a French tutor, or a bank teller, or even, a delivery man. But he said no. He said no to comfort, safety, and easy access to rich girls with nothing in their heads, but a lot in the top of their dresses. Instead, he'd gotten a job at a coal mine. Traveling on a train, sometimes walking, trying to ignore the friendliness of the Irish boys who should be in school. He remembered one that absolutely would not leave him alone! Sean something... Just like all the others.
Henri'd almost been tempted by the young man's promises of a good time and girls at a local theatre, but had he been so inclined, he would've denied once he'd seen who the boy hung around with. An Indian, a fairy, a drunkard, and a girl who seemed to have no shoes! He shuddered at the thought of this atrocity. His mama had always told him to accept where it was acceptable and to deny when right. So far, nothing had been right. Not the blone prostitute with the Southern accent, not a girl with fiery eyes at the bar, not even the charming blonde girl he met in the General Store. Nothing!
But... what was this? A female was clearly comtemplating entering Tibby's! And she was a fine specimen! Henri found himself almost pressing his nose to the glass to catch a look of her. If only she would enter...

Abby walked past Tibby's pub, then doubled back. She peered in trying to find Spade or anyone. She shrugged her shoulders and turned away. She peered up and down the road trying to spot a familiar face in the crowd. She sighed. She'd left Spade alone, giving directions as best as she could to a new Newsie. When she'd turned, Spade was gone. Abby convinced herself not to worry, that he was a man and could take care of himself or possibly that he was helping Irish and Poet with their little one. She shrugged her shoulders and turned back towards Tibby's. Her stomach grumbled as she looked at the place. She hadn't eaten there in a while. Why not? she asked herself.
Abby walked through the doors of Tibby's and hesitated. She didn't see anyone she knew, but nobody seemed to care she was there. She smiled and walked over to the bar.

Henri watched the girl with eyes that reminded one of a sinner looking at salvation, or a desert man finding water. Henri whistled sharply. A skinny boy jumped and looked at him. "See that girl over there? Cette fille est très belle. Go buy her a drink and say it's from me. The gentlemen by the window. Tell her I want to talk to her very much." Henri nodded. "Well? Tell her!" The boy ran over, bought the drink, relayed his message, pointed at Henri, and ran off. Henri raised a hand lazily, signaling that he was the one that seeked her company. He watched her, soft chocolate hair, eyes that seemed to him like a Russian painting, and everything else fell into place along with Roman equivilants such as Venus.
He said one thing, the thing that had gotten many women to gain interest in him. "Bonjour mon chéri."

Abby smiled sweetly at the kid and listened to his message. She looked around to see who he meant. One of the guys by the window waved at her. She smiled at him and grabbed her drink off of the bar, thanking the bartender. She walked over to where she was told.
She sat down across from the handsome gentleman and smiled. "You didn't hafta do this." She said holding up her drink. She smiled at him and took a sip from it anyway. She swallowed with some difficulty. "You speak french?" She asked with another smile. Abby was mentally kicking herself for looking like a fool and smiling so much, but around him, it was hard to not smile.

Henri smiled that smile of his smile that only lifted up one side of his mouth. It was charming and dared the girl to reject him. "Darling, I am French." He laughed appreciatively. "And about the drink, I noticed no one else was stepping up and a beautiful woman like yourself should not go thirsty. Nor hungry for that matter, how about you join moi for dinner?" He smiled his smile again. This was better then perfect. Beautiful and witty. And completely willing. He hadn't been excited by a woman like this since Claudia- No. He wouldn't let himself go there. He watched her, waiting for her reply.

Abby laughed and looked down at the table with a smile. "I'd love that." She told him looking back up at him. "Dinner, i mean." She smiled at him. Then, she took another drink. She had much practice at reading faces, but this guy was making it too easy for her. Suddenly she blushed. "I'm sorry. My name's Abby by the way."

Henri grinned. "I'm sure you would love it... Dinner I mean." He winked, to show he was only teasing. He enjoyed watching the pretty blush spread across her face. It only made his grin wider. "You certainly have nothing to be sorry for. I am Henri de Lion... Nice to meet you Abby." Henri nodded, in this case, he'd gladly accept anything she had to offer.

Abby smiled sweetly. "It's nice ta meet ya. Dinner would be great. Ya got anywhere in mind?" She asked before taking a sip of her drink. Henri, she kept thinking. He must be new here. She'd have met him before. The voice in the back of her mind kept saying Spade everytime she thought [i[Henri[/i]. She bit her bottom lip. She was supposed to meet Spade, but she didn't know where. And she was getting hungry... She nodded mentally, making her descision. Dinner it is, she thought.

Henri looked at her. "How about that Italian resturant. Fedocini's?" He asked persuasively. He swirled his glass around before taking a sip. "Your eyes... I've never seen such soulful eyes on someone so young. There was a man, a very old man, and he had soul-filled eyes. Never have I seen them on a young girl like yourself." He paused. "Speaking of which... How old are you, chere?" A girl's age had gotten him into trouble before. That Sean boy's sister. Now that was a debacle he didn't want a repeat of...

Abby looked at Henri, dinking slowly, thinking. She'd never been to Fedocini's before. She wasn't sure about Italian food. "Fedocini's sounds great." She said smiling. She loved trying new things. And on the plus side, if she saw Spade, it would make him angry. She didn't like seeing him with Poet, honestly, or Ace. She didn't like it.
"I'm sixteen. I'll beh seventeen soon." Abby kept looking at Henri. To her, he looked like he was near seventeen to nineteen. Just her age.

Henri nodded. "You'll like it. I promise." He crossed his heart lazily. He gazed over his glass at her then set it down without noise. Training. "Sixteen, huh? I'm eighteen. Not a problem for you? I must warn you, if you're with someone else, I'm not much of a fighter." He smirked. "So... what do you do for a living? I'm a coal miner. You wouldn't happen to know someone named Sean, would you? He has a little sister named Moira... She's a beauty. Nothing like you, of course. She was real welcoming..." He trailed off meaningfully.

Abby smiled and was quiet for a while. What did she do? She took a long drink, finishing it off, before answering. "I don't do anythin' really. I ran away from home, and i ain't goin' back. Life led meh hereh. To Manhattan." Then, she smiled. "I know Sean. Good guy. I never met Moria before though." She thought of Spade. She wasn't really with him exactly. And if they did run into him, she'd deal with him. No way would Spade hit her. She set her her glass down.

"Oh so... You leech off others..." Henri murmured, but then he grinned to show he was joking. "I'm glad you think he's nice... I find him rather annoying, really. Wouldn't leave me alone on my first day, blabbering in Irish or something, expecting me to understand." Henri sighed. "When I came over, I only spoke a little English. Mostly French." He rubbed his finger around the rim of his glass. Watching her. "Where are you from?" He asked.

Abby grinned at Henri. "Yeah i guess i do." She said shrugging. She tried to remember where she was origionally from, but all she could remember was Manhattan. "I think i was born here. Only, on the other side of Manhattan. I can't remember it all that well." She told him truthfully. She already knew he was French and chances were he came from France. She looked out the window for a second and she thought she saw Spade. She quickly looked away and then back at Henri. She saw he was staring at her. Her face became flushed slightly and she smiled at him.

Henri looked at her. "How interesting." He said lightly, he saw her eyes flick out the windows and back. "Are you... expecting someone?" Henri was quite surprised, it was very odd for him to talk to someone for so long. Usually it was a done deal. And taking her to dinner on top of it... But then again, she didn't seem like on of the usual American girls, and she wasn't like the French dancing girls either. "Please, tell me about who you are waiting for. Am I too make him jealous?"
