Street stood on the street corner, newspapers lying at her feet. She had traded them for a watch from one of her Bronx newsies. Now, she waited. She had been developing this technique for a while now, she would have the pretense of selling papers, then, she would pick the pockets of the men who bought from her.
A man approached her, he paid for his pape and reached for it, she touched his jacket with her light fingers and slipped her hand into his pocket-and pulled out his clip of money quicker then a flash. By the time he missed his money, he wouldn't be able to find her. Street hummed a tune she had learned from Broadway, not really paying attention to her surroundings.

"Ya know he's gonna realize that's missin' eventually." Mush said as he stepped around the corner. He smiled at Street. It had been a while since he saw hee. "So how's things Street?" He came over and sat beside her. After finishing selling his papes, there's wasn't much else to do.

Street laughed. "He won't be able ta find me." She said, shrugging. She bent down to straighten some papers and looked back at him. "Things are pretty good. How about ya, Mush? Anythin' interestin' lately?" She asked, smoothing her skirt and handing a paper to man as she took a small from his pocket. As he walked away, she looked confused. "A chain with no watch attatched?" She asked... She shook her head.

Mush shrugged. "Ain't nothing much happened. Street has a sister. They look like twins, sorta." Mush smiled. His grin got bigger when she had stolen a chain without a watch. "Maybe you alread stole it." He chuckled. "Or maybe he has uh- had that chain so people like you could take his watch." He laughed.

Street looked at him like he was stupid. "Duh, she's my sister. But thanks, she's pretty so if we look like twins, thanks. That's a compliment." Street looked at the chain. "Ya know, he did kind of look familiar... Maybe I did steal his watch before." She laughed, it rang across the street. Several others came and bought papers. "Make yourself useful, yeah? I'm swamped. Honest!" She smiled at him and brushed a hair from her face. "Ya know, I'm glad your takin' care of Ophelia, she needs someone like that."

Mush sighed, overly dramatic. He smiled down at Street. "Here, gemme some." As Street handed him some of her papes he walked out of the alley and you could hear him shouting the headline. Once he had sold all of the papes she gave him he returned with the money. He handed her all of it. He'd already sold all his papes. He had money for all week and a show at Medda's.
Sorry about the Street's sister comment. I forgot who i was talking to. ;D

Street grinned, but took half the money. "Ophelia's expensive. Ya'll need all the money ya can get." She laughed softly and wound her arm through his, ignoring other people trying to buy papers. Selling papes always did bore her. "Gosh, I'm so hungry, and tired. Ophelia just wants ta talk, talk, talk. Plus, she doesn't like the food I always want ta buy so we never eat when we're walkin' around. She tried ta take me inta one of them hoity-toity resturants, but I got kicked out 'cause I wasn't properly dressed." She looked at a man sellin hot buns longingly. "How much?"
"Ten cents." He barked.
"High-way robbery..." She muttered, but handed over the money anyway. She ripped it in half hungrily. "Want some?" She asked, her mouth full.

Mush walked around with Street. Arm in arm. They came to a guy selling hot buns. Street bought one and offered some to Mush. "Yeah, thanks." He took a small piece, though he was hungry too. He saw how Street ripped into it like a starving animal. He laughed. He couldn't believe she'd actually paid for it. He knew she didn't always steal but she hardly ever paid for stuff. "So Ophelia doesn't like Tibby's or 'our' places?" He put air quotes around our. He didn't know what she liked but it was deffinatly not what he ate.

"Not after the hotdog thing..." Street muttered around a mouthful of bun. She swallowed and winced as it was so hot. "See Ophelia's been raised by Grandmam and them rich people. She don't settle for second-hand stuff. She must recognize that you're a diamond in the ruff, Mush." She elbowed him slightly. "God, I barely have enough energy ta do anythin'! I haven't eaten since... yesterday mornin'?" She asked herself, amazed. "Wow..."

Mush shook his head. He had almost forgotten about the hotdog incident. How could he? He smiled, remembering. No, it hadn't been a good incident but he could laugh about it now. He remembered what Levi had said about Ophelia and became uncomfortable. He wanted to ask Street but didn't know how to put it into words. "Uh- Street?" He decided not to beat around the bush. "IsOpheliabetrothedtoanyone?" His words ran together because of his nervousness.

Street stopped chewing and looked at him, her jaw going slack and a hald-chewed bun showing slightly. "Huh?" She asked. "Is Ophelia be-trothed ta anyone?" She tilted her head then laughed. "I don't even know what that words means... Is is like... Engaged? If so, then no. I don't think so. She hasn't mention any guys, only ya." She winked. "She likes ya, alot, so... I see no clouds in yer future." She laughed.

Mush breathed out slowly. He realized he'd been holding his breath. He smiled. "That's good. Very good." He said absent-mindedly. He realized Street was still looking at him. "Um- I only meant that uh-" He didn't know what he meant. It was good that she wasn't engaged or betrothed. Or that he talked about any guys except for him. He looked away, looking for something to change the subject.

Street raised her eyebrows. She laughed. "Yeah, it's really good." She smirked. "Anyway, I've been feelin' funny lately. I think winter's comin' but I can't bare sleepin' in the Lodgin' House... But somethin' tells me this is gonna be a bad winter... Deadly it seems." She shook her head.

Mush saw that Street smiled. He smiled too. Then she brought up winter. He hadn't thought about it much. "Deadly? What do ya mean." He had never really liked winter but it was sometimes better than summer. He didn't like the way Street talked about it though. It made winter feel all wrong to him.

Street glanced at him absently. "Hmm? Well I'm don't mean much. See, when winter comes people begin to... fade away." Her voice faded away slightly. "Uh... I don't really want ta get inta it, I just don't know whether or not I'll be able ta make it as strong as I usually do. I may actually have to follow Spot's orders and move inta the Lodgin' House." Street murmured, she finished her bun and licked her fingers enjoyably.
