Brooke let out a sigh of relief. "Good goil Gemma." She smiled at the bird. You wouldn't catch her down in those mines but as long as Sean had Gemma Brooke wasn't as worried. She smiled at Sean again when Gemma chirped. Brooke looked around and saw someone walking towards them. He was carring a mining helmet like Sean had. Brooke supposed he was going with Sean to the mines. She leaned in to Gemma as the stranger approached. "You just keep him- uh them safe ok Gemma?" She knew the small bird couldn't answer her but she imagined that the look in the canary's eyes was a promise. She smiled back at the bird. She looked up and saw Sean staring at her. She smiled sheepishly and blushed.

Gemma chirped and nibbled on Brooke's finger lovingly. Sean greeted the boy and shook hands with him. "Yeah, Oi remember. Hey, Micheal, this is Brooke Cromwell. Little Asher's sister."
"The fairy?"
"Yeah, the fairy. Where'd ye hear that anyways?" Sean asked. Micheal laughed.
"Levi Akecheta. Saw him out with the stupid little waif Avenue, or whatever the hell her name is."
"Street. Her name is Street." Sean said wearily.
"Yeah well, she's hard on the eyes. But her sister... Yeah... I'd like to see her sister one day in a dark alleyway." Sean rolled his eyes and ignored this.

Brooke stared at the boy named Micheal. "Street's still here? Is she okay?" She'd always liked Street, but Spot, ugh.. he was another story completely. That Spot Conlon was always so well, annoying really. Street livened things up around him. Brooke hoped Street wasn't still hanging around with him. He never got her hints anyway. So what if she wasn't the nicest looking girl out there, but there were worse people. If Spot didn't appreciate her, then he didn't deserve her anyway. Brooke turned and looked back at Sean. "What have i missed since i've been gone?" She had a feeling she'd missed a lot. They were calling Asher a fairy, whatever the hell that meant. She knew he'd never been well 'normal' but was he completely gay? Seriously? And who was this Levi they kept talking about? What was he to Street?

Sean and Micheal looked at her. Sean's eyebrows were raised in surprise. "Ye know Street? Yeah she's okay. Levi accidently stabbed her o'couple o'weeks ago when she tried to break up a fight between him and Mush." Sean shrugged. "Spot's been kind o'ignorin' her since he met that Ace goil, so she started hangin' out with Mush, Levi, Irish, Asher, and me, o'course. Then she found her sister, Ophelia, and their brother Mercury." He shrugged.
"Well, yer brother got a full time gig at Medda's, and he's been more serious with Tyler now... Uh... Mush is kinda, sorta engaged to Ophelia, Street's in love with Levi now, instead of Spot... Moira had sex with yer brother when he was down and almost told Irish, Irish is gettin' married to Poet, he cheated on her with a new girl, Abby..." Sean grinned. "Same old, same old." He snickered. "More drama then in the rich folks lives, eh? How about ye, how have ye been?"

Brooke could feel her jaw dropping the more Sean said. "Wow." Was all that she could say when he was finished. She shook her head and smiled, pulling herself together. "Uh, i've been alright i guess. I moved to get some fresh air and away from the woiking life. But that didn't woik too well." She smiled sheepishly. "But i'm glad i came back. And i think i'll stick around for awhile." She reached for his hand but backed out at the last second and grabbed Gemma's cage and poked her fingers into the tiny bars of the cage. She looked at Gemma but she kept sneaking peaks at the boys, trying to figure out what they were thinking.

Sean suddenly tapped her shoulder. "That's Levi now! Jesus above, what's he doin' out here?" He asked Micheal-who only shrugged. "'Ello, Levi. What's goin' on?"
"Oh, I'm goin' into the mine today. I need a job. Ophelia keeps takin' all my money and givin' it to Street." He said bitterly. He had a hat, and a pick axe slung over his shoulder. Along with his bone knife that had cut Street and was still sharper then steel, and his string of lucky beads-minus the one he had given Street.
"Oh, Oi see." Sean said, nodding. "Ye know Brooke?"
"Yeah, she's Asher's sister. He'll be glad to have her back. Especially since he hasn't seen Tyler in a while." His coal-black eyes flickered to her. "She's a looker, right?" He asked Sean, seeing him with new respect.

Brooke smiled at Levi and giggled. "Hey Levi." Geez, she thought, the mines is the place ta be! All her friends, that were guys anyway, seemed to be going there. "Anyone else i know goin' to- the mines?" She hesitated in saying 'to risk their lives-' she wasn't sure if that would set anyone off so she decided to let it go. She wondered if Mush was going too. She hadn't seen him since she'd left. Or Asher. She wondered how her little brother had been doing. She doubted he was going to the mines, seeing as Michael said he was working for Medda. She was happy he had a solid job.

"Hey good-lookin'! How's life treatin' you?" Levi said, sitting down next to her. His charm was off the meters... with his good looks from his Indian mother and White father, his devilish smile, his wild, yet organized hair-and the dangerous air around him.
Sean was blonde with green-blue eyes and was polite and gentlemanly like, he always thought things through carefully-while Levi rushed in head long and talked his way out of it. He could be a gentleman, a thief, a player, and most of all-he could run faster then anyone else in New York. "Where are ya mocasins, Levi?" Sean asked.
Levi tore his eyes from Brooke and said quickly, "Can't wear 'em in the mine, can I? The dampness'll ruin 'em. Don't want that to happen. Mum and Granny made 'em for them before Mum died. One of the last things I have to remember her by." He said somberly, then turned back to staring longingly at Brooke.

Brooke smiled at Levi. "Oh stop that." She rolled her eyes at him still smiling. "I'm good. You look like you're doing just fine yourself. Am i right?" She looked at Sean. He didn't sound jealous. Brooke frowned, maybe she wasn't as pretty as Levi made her out to be. She decided to turn her charm on. She turned back to Levi, "Ya wouldn't want that ta happen," she told him. "I love those moccasins." She smiled at him and batted her eyes slightly. She wasn't exactly a pro at this. She hadn't need it before. Maybe the move had changed her. She wasn't sure.

Levi looked at her in alarm. 'It worked?' He asked himself in amazement. He had an urge to really dig it to Sean, but an annoying blonde haired freak kept poping into his head. He grinned at Brooke, trying to get the little stalker out of his head. "Life's treatin' me good. Haven't gotten into any fights lately." Then he seemed to remember something and he looked at Sean. "Irish owes me money by the way. He was treatin' that gorgeous Honey and placed everythin' on my tab. Now, I owe Broadway money."
Sean nodded once, curtly. "Yeah, hey, um... Levi... Come here for a bit." He said, nodding to a corner. They got up and Sean looked him in the eye. "Stop oit, right now. Ye hear? Sit on the other side of me." He said, and when they returned, Levi sank onto the bench on the other side of Sean. He looked surly and glared daggers at Sean's back.
"I'm gonna kill your bird in it's sleep." Levi told him bitterly.
"Try oit." Sean answered cheerfully, not looking at him. He fed Gemma another piece of food and she took a drink from a water drop on his finger. "Bite him, ey?" He told his bird.

Brooke smiled at Levi. "That's good. We wouldn't want our favorite indian gettin' hoit now would we?" Sean had called Levi over away from Brooke. She decided to pet Gemma instead of watching them. They came back but Levi sat on the other side of Sean; away from Brooke. She tried to hid her smile. 'Wow, I can't believe that one woiked.' She tried her best to fake a confused look. But failed, so she gave up. "What was that about?" She asked trying to look completely clueless and innocent.

Sean looked up at her in shock. "Oh... Um..." He scrambled for a suitable lie to cover his ass. He settled on one that would make Levi cringe. "He promised his goil that he wouldn't mess around with any other goils." He grinned as Levi made a scoffing noise.
"I hope you choke on your tongue," Levi snapped, crossing his arms and slinking down on the bench.
"Same to ye, me friend." Sean answered cheerfully, smiling at Brooke.
"Get bent." Sean laughed.

Brooke looked at Levi with her mouth open in a silent gasp. "Levi! Why would ya do that ta her? That's awful." She scowled at him. Brooke hoped that his girl heard about this. She hated it when people lied to other people. Especially her. No one lied to her and got away with it. She always figured out the truth. She turned back towards Sean. "Do ya really hafta go?" She put on her pouty face. "I don't want ya ta." She looked down at Gemma, avoiding his eyes.

Levi glared at Sean's back. "I didn't promise Rosalind nothin'." He said.
"Rosalind is it now?" Sean teased. He looked at Brooke. "'Fraid I gotta, gotta work to get paid, lass." He smiled crookedly. "But... The train still won't arrive for a bit." He said as another boy from the mines greeted Levi with a back slap.

Brooke looked up at him, but kept her head down. "Fine." She contained the smile that threatened to break loose. She sounded exactly like she had when she was little. She always got her way when she was little. But mostly because she always wanted what she could have. Boy, did that change. Now, she was a typical girl. Always wantin' what she couldn't have. "Who's Rosalind?" She looked at Levi curiously.
